Verizon iPhone 4 Comes With Enhanced Antenna, GPS Chip: Report

With the Verizon iPhone 4 coming into the market , the techno enthusiasts have started showing their passion to pull apart its components and have a look into the bone structure of the smart iDevice. Market research company, iSuppli, has thus, reportedly, posted the “early results” of the phone’s teardown.

The research firm has found out that while the Cupertino , California smartphone producer has preserved its elementary integrated antenna and the enclosed design for its CDMA version of the iPhone 4, but the new Verizon capable CDMA device “employs a dual-antenna design that takes advantage of antenna diversity to improve reception.”

iSuppli also made known that the MDM chipset has turned out to be a “slim modem” platform, just like the UMTS/GSM chipset which is available in a AT&T-version of the iPhone 4. It said, “MDM chipsets are typically sold to manufacturers of embedded wireless modules or dongles..The MDM chipset from Qualcomm is essentially an entry-level chip and provides savings for Apple both in terms of device complexity and in the cost of manufacturing.”

The iSuppli’s rip down also revealed that Apple has done away with the use of a separate GPS chip, that came with Broadcom. As an alternative, the new Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 makes use of an integrated GPS functionality that can be found on the Qualcomm MDM6600 baseband.

In an another teardown attempt, an AppleInsider report confirms that, “The use of the “world mode” baseband from Qualcomm was first revealed on Tuesday through a separate teardown by solutions provider iFixit. “
