After a series of rumors indicating a Verizon iPhone 4 coming soon, comes another rumor from DroidLife saying that Verizon might formally announce this weekend that they would not be carrying the iPhone 4 after all. The tech sites have been abuzz with reports of a Verizon iPhone 4g.
DigiTimes had reported this month that Apple had contracted Pegatron Technology to manufacture CDMA compatible iPhone 4. An analyst at Barclays Capital, James Ratcliffe, too had recently said that if Verizon iPhones were to hit the market, about 9 million new Verizon activations could occur by 2011. But the most recent report by DroidLife indicates that Verizon would shun iPhone plans altogether.
Complaints about the poor cellphone reception in iPhone 4 have been growing and growing at an alarming rate. Apple’s recent remarks about potential fixes has many customers believing that these issues, prevalent in previous iPhones too, are not just because of AT&T but also because of some fault in iPhones too.
DroidLife has reported that Verizon is ready to dish out a couple of surprises this weekend. First could be Verizon’s plans to launch a new ad campaign with the slogan “Rule The Air” and “Send A Strong Signal”. Also the campaigns would not be branded as ‘Verizon Wireless’ but just ‘Verizon’ instead. The second surprise according to DroidLife could be an official announcement by Verizon stating that they won’t be carrying the iPhone 4 and instead focus on their high-end Android line up i.e. Motorola Droid X, Motorola Droid 2 and HTC Incredible.
These predictions can not be dismissed lightly as rumors because DroidLife has the reputation of being correct most of the times. For example, DroidLife’s report about a new Verizon ad campaign was substantiated by multiple blog reports. A couple of them have even managed to get their hands on some of the ad materials and have published them too.
Concerning the second observation, one could discern the truth about it through observing the ad campaign. The new ad campaign boasts of a “a strong signal” across their entire network and hence entire handset line up, it would not make sense to have a potentially faulty device like iPhone 4 and be admonished by the users for dropped calls as AT&T has experienced.
But lets wait for final confirmation before jumping to conclusions about Verizon iPhone 4.
