The new iPhone 4, which was unveiled by CEO Steve Jobs yesterday, is Apple’s biggest update yet for the handset. The new smartphone is a super-slim device with glass-backed slab. But the iPhone 4 will have to face stiff competition from Android-powered Sprint HTC Evo 4G, which was unveiled last Friday. The iPhone 4 has a 3.5 inch display with 960 x 640 pixel resolution, while Evo’s screen is a little bigger at 4.3 inch with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. iPhone 4 has an Apple A4 chip, while Evo uses 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon. Apple’s device is lighter among the two at 4.8 ounces. Evo weighs 6 ounces. iPhone runs on iOS 4, while Evo is powered by Google’s hugely popular OS- the Android 2.1.
iPhone 4 has 3G cellular access. Evo is the only device in the US with 4G access. iPhone has a storage capacity of either 16 or 32 GB, Evo supports up to 32 GB. Both smartphones come equipped with dual cameras. iPhone 4’s front facing camera’s resolution is still unknown, while its primary camera is of 5-megapixel.
In Evo, the primary camera is of 8-megapixel, while the front-facing camera is of 1.3 megapixel. iPhone is a fairly good device for video recording as it can record up to 30 frames per second, while Evo can record at 25 frames per second.
iPhone 4 supports video conferencing through FaceTime application, via Wi-Fi only. Evo supports this facility through Qik app that costs $5 a month for premium features. The Apple’s device boasts of a talk time of up to 7 hours on 3G and 14 hours on 2G, while Evo claims of up to 6 hours of talk time.
