You can now instantly know what your friends, families and associates are upto on facebook. Facebook is in the process of starting a new service where users can opt to get alerts when their friends are active on profiles. So when the next time some one posts pictures or share a link they can rest assured that people who matter are notified and can see the posts without missing.
Also, people can subscribe to persons who are important to them and receive updates about them. Thereby minimising the communication gap. The feature which is still in the test stage is already receiving a lot criticism. The feature has also been termed as stalking by some industry watchers as it is still not known whether people will be able to receive live feeds of other people included in their “friend list” or can susbscribe to just any user’s update the way it happens in Twitter.
Facebook in its statement said, “We are testing this feature with a small percentage of users. It lets people subscribe to friends and pages to receive notifications whenever the person they’ve subscribed to updates their status or posts new content, such as photos, videos, links, or notes.”
Technology website Mashabe commented. “We’re hoping this is an opt-in feature. If Facebook thinks subscriptions are useful for the majority of average users, people who might want to get special notifications for family members’ or loved ones’ activities, they’re also potentially damaging if rolled out to jealous ‘frenemies’, vindictive exes or nosy bosses.”
