Madonna has condemned rapper M.I.A. for her "teenage" capers during their Super Bowl performance last weekend.
The pop goddess said that she was disappointed with the British rapper, who triggered instant controversy by raising her middle finger at the camera during her performance at 'Gimme all your Luvin.' Madonna said that M.I.A.'s behavior was inappropriate for the reputed Super Bowl XLVI Half Time Show.
"I wasn't happy about it," Madonna told KIIS-FM host Ryan Seacrest. "I understand it's kind of punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative. It's one of those things, it's such a teenager. in a way, kind of irrelevant kind of thing to do. There was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was just out of place."
Madonna added that she only became aware of the incident after the performance. She told Seacrest, "To tell you the truth, I didn't even know about it. I didn't know about it until I left. I found out about it in the elevator, actually. I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it."
NBC Sports have already released a public apology regarding the rapper's behavior. A spokesperson for the TV station said, "We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late."
