Apple on Wednesday announced an array of new hardware and software: a fresh Internet-enabled video streaming device, sleek and lustrous iPods ,latest versions of its iOS software and iTunes 10 and Ping. By far , the most impressive and innovative of all appears to be the Ping, a music-based social network.
Ping will allow Apple’s 160 million existing iTunes users to interact, receive latest updates about music artists, follow celebrities, and create their own social gangs. Undoubtedly, this service is certain to establish a connection between social networking and trade.
As per a demo for Ping from Steve Job, CEO, Apple ,it shows how the new service will manage to gather social data of interconnected groups and friends. For instance, people of same age, social class, backgrounds, etc tend to have similar inclinations towards various forms of art. This is where the new service bonds and gels itself with social and commercial interests and Apple’s iTunes Stores come into action.
Apple’s acquisition of Lala, an online music service has paved the way for this social invention. Lala.com made its name as a social music streaming website , by enabling people to purchase their favorite music. Apple;s addition of its iTunes Store facility is what Ping is all about.
Similar to Apple, Amazon is also showing interest in using their customer data and forming a book-based service where its users can commonly share their interests with their acquaintances and buy books.
Thus, it won’t be wrong to predict an upward trend in the sales of iTunes Stores in the coming months.
